2 Marys - Fourth Sunday in Advent (Luke 2:15-20)

Tim Douglass, December 20, 2020
Part of the Advent 2020 series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

For the Fourth Sunday in Advent we are going to be looking at two women named Mary. It seems to have a somewhat common name among the women around Jesus, but the one we generally think of first is the mother of Jesus, usually with the preface of “The Virgin”. Like many of the other people around the story of Jesus we really don’t know a great deal about her, but she is there from the beginning and is present at the conclusion. Mary is particularly important when we are learning about Jesus because she is the human connection for the incarnation of God. So let’s take a good look at what it meant for her to be the mother of God.
