Hebrews 4:11-16 - Part 5 (Hebrews 4:11-16)

Tim Douglass, February 12, 2017
Part of the Letter to the Hebrews series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

At first glance it seems like there is an abrupt shift at verse 14 to talking about Jesus as the High Priest, but the things we’ve been discussing about the living word and judgement actually lead right into this concept. Judgement requires that we make atonement, and we make atonement through the priest, of whom the greatest is the High Priest, so the sin and failure of the Israelites in the wilderness leads us directly to the functions and person of the High Priest who will offer sacrifices for them. A large part of Hebrews is taken up with the discussion of Jesus as our great High Priest, so we are going to enter into that discussion with some study of the priestly role.
