As we continue to look at John’s introduction we come to his introduction of life and light, two concepts that don’t necessarily seem to have a strong connection to one another. Scientifically, of course, life exists through the action of light. Without the light of the sun all life on earth would soon cease, but that’s not what John is thinking about here. Once again he is using the cultural meanings behind things to get his message across.
