Chapter 9 concluded with Paul’s enthusiastic cry of praise “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”, wrapping up his discussion and exhortation on giving. The next four chapters take on a very different tone. Paul is now making a strong defense of himself and his ministry and is taking his readers to task over several things. This extreme shift raises some questions regarding the continuity of the letter and how we should read these chapters.
