Fourth Sunday of Advent - The Presents (Matthew 2:1-12)

Tim Douglass, December 24, 2023
Part of the Advent 2023 series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

On this, the Fourth Sunday in Advent, we are going to examine what is, in a lot of ways, a bit of a side-note to the main story. On the first week we discussed the need of the people of the world for a savior, which God has provided. The second week we talked about the faithfulness of the parents of Jesus and John the Baptist and the example of faith they set for us. Last week, the third week of Advent, we took a look at the pasture, or rather the people from that pasture, the shepherds who exemplify the fact that God does not use those who are powerful or important in human measures, but those He chooses for His own reasons. This week our official title is “The Presents” (as in gifts), but again we are looking partly at the people who brought presents to Jesus and what those actions mean.
